Thanks to our volunteers who put-in several hours of preparation today, then participated in the Annual Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas Parade.
It has been a tradition that our volunteers of the Downingtown Fire Dept. look forward to pulling the 1892 Silsby Steam Fire Engine in the annual parade to help our community celebrate Christmas. The Silsby was originally purchased by the Alert Fire Co. No. 1 in the year 1892, then it was given to the Minquas Fire Co. No. 2 in 1908 when the new company was formed. It takes a total team effort of about twenty people to pull this heavy steamer in the parade, each year. When the steamer was used, between 1892 and 1926, two horses were used to pull the rig, both at Alert and Minquas. The honored driver of the steamer-pull, this year was Past DFD Fire Chief Michael Miller.
We would like to thank everybody who cheered us on, throughout the parade route and we look forward to doing this again, next year!
