Just after 3:30 AM on Super Bowl Sunday, the Downingtown Fire Dept. was dispatched for an auto accident of a car into a building with entrapment, in the 1100 block of Boot Rd., in East Caln Twp.
Assistant Chief 46 (Boyd) arrived at the scene to find one car on its side and partially inside of an over 200 year old stone house that was converted into and office building.
The crew from Rescue 45 (Capt. K. Stevens) split into two teams with the first team stabilizing the car and the structure using the Paratech Rescue Struts from Rescue 45. The second rescue team extricated the two victims from the car, inside of the building. The crew from Engine 45 (Lt. Hamilton) assisted with the rescue operation.
The Chester County Rescue Task Force Collapse Team (Rescue 53 – Fame Fire Co. No. 3, Rescue 47 – Lionville Fire Co. and Rescue 6 – West Whiteland Fire Co.) was dispatched to assist with evaluating the safety and stabilizing the structure. The crew from Engine 46-2 deployed a protective hand-line and Air-Light 46 assisted with lighting while MICU 46 and 87 (Uwchlan EMS) transported the victims to a trauma center. The Downingtown Fire Police controlled the traffic and the Downingtown Police investigated the accident.
