The Downingtown Fire Dept. is happy to announce that Chester County now has “Smart 911” for all of our residents to use. This new system will give emergency responders additional knowledge when we are responding to your emergency.
What if there’s a fire, a medical emergency, or a child goes missing? When you dial 9-1-1 under stress, you may not have access to important details, or you may have trouble remembering them. Smart911 is a new service in Chester County that allows you to create a Safety Profile on-line at www.smart911.com . Your profile will include details that you want the Chester County 9-1-1 Center and the public safety response teams to know about you and others in your household in an event of an emergency. When you dial 9-1-1, from a phone associated with your Safety Profile, the information that you provide, automatically displays to the 9-1-1 call taker, allowing them to send you responders based on the up-to-date location and emergency information.
With your Safety Profile created, emergency responders can arrive at your location, already aware of details that they would not otherwise know. Fire crews can arrive knowing exactly how many people live in your home and where the bedrooms are located. EMS personnel will know family members’ allergies or specific medical conditions. And, the police will be able to access a photo of a family member in seconds rather than minutes or hours, helping the search for a missing person, start faster.
