Congratulations to our newest member of the company, Sam Aikin, for the completion and graduation of his National Certification in Firefighter I.
Sam, along with Minquas Fire Co. No. 2 firefighter Avery Cooper were enrolled in Class No. 1801 which was a 10 week academy style fire training certification program that was conducted at the Chester County Public Safety Training Center in South Coatesville. Sam was in the Recruit Company Four team that learned many new firefighting skills that will serve them well in their volunteer emergency services career.
Sam was our first member to go through the entire certification training program after we recruited him on Good Neighbor Day (July 4, 2017) through our new member recruiting program. The Alert Fire Co. No. 1 was awarded from the FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) of the 2017 SAFER (Staffing For Adequate Fire & Emergency Response) grant initiative that were utilized for Recruitment and Retention activities by volunteer emergency service organizations.
The new Firefighter I graduates may elect to have a family member, an instructor or a member from their company present their new certificate to them, during the ceremony. Sam chose to have Past President, Bob Stevens present him with his certificate at the event. Bob was the first person to speak with Sam at our recruiting tent in Kerr Park on Good Neighbor Day and challenged him to give the fire and rescue service a try! Sam is married to Katrina and he has a special interest in our DFD Water Rescue Team, as he is a certified diver and has already taken an ice rescue and water rescue awareness classes.
Congratulations Sam and the entire Chester County Recruit Class 1801. This is only the beginning of your fire and rescue training! #helpfightfire
