Alert Fire Co. No. 1

TBT - 35 Years ago in April 1983, this was most likely one of the last photos taken of our 1941 built firehouse, before our addition was built.

The trees in our side yard were cut-down in May, 1983 and the official ground-breaking ceremony took place in June, 1983. It is hard to believe that it has been 35 years!

I remember jumping off my bike on the side there and jumping over the steps to get to the door when we had a fire call !

I remember seeing the old brush truck 45-8 sitting outside every time passing by

Boy, if those steps could talk, they would have some good stories to tell, after all of those years!

There was more than one fireman that fell up those steps after a parade or housing!

1984?

Alert Fire Co. No. 1

We are now in the middle of "National Volunteer Week", April 15 to 21, 2018. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our current and retired volunteers of the Alert Fire Co. No. 1 for the dedicated service that you provide to our Good Neighbor Community.

During this week, many people across America will be honored and celebrated for their volunteerism at food banks, homeless shelters, youth camps, etc. The list is very long of the many and great agencies that you can volunteer with and they are all deserving of your time and talents.

However, have you ever considered volunteering with your local emergency services? The Alert Fire Co. No. 1 is one of the two non-profit, 100% volunteer full service fire, vehicle and technical rescue services that make-up the Downingtown Fire Dept. We are located at 122 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335. The other company that provides fire and EMS for the department is the Minquas Fire Co. No. 2, located at 141 Wallace Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335.

If you are interested in a challenging opportunity of Neighbors Helping Neighbors and making making a difference in somebody's life, becoming a Fire Police Officer or assisting with our administration, please consider joining our team. We provide all of the training and personal protective equipment, free to you. All we need is some of your time!

Please visit us at the station or at www.alertfire.org and click on "Become A Member" to download our membership application. #helpfightfire #volunteertoday #alertfireco #downingtown #smalltownheaven #nationalvolunteerweek

Thank you again for volunteering, every day and week of the year!
