You’ve heard this saying before, “training never stops”! Well, that’s a true statement for our Alert No. 1 volunteers. The Wednesday evening, weekly training events for our members during the month of May were dedicated to fire ground ventilation.
The first Wednesday, the crew learned and reviewed which hand-tools and power saws are used for the different types ventilation. The second training evening was with Station 48 (Glen Moore Fire Co.) at an acquired structure doing horizontal ventilation (plus some search and rescue) while the Station 48 volunteers conducted hose-line management drills. The third event was learning flat roof ventilation using rotary and chain saws. In addition, the team learned and practiced the 7-9-8 Coffin Cut for a flat commercial style roof. And, lastly the team went to Station 73 (Ludwigs Corner Fire Co.) to conduct peaked-roof ventilation using our Ladder Tower and ground ladders.
We would like to thank the Glen Moore and Ludwigs Corner Fire Companies for inviting us to train with them and to use their facilities.
