At 8:12 AM, the Downingtown Fire Dept., plus Engines 38 (Thorndale Fire Co.), 39-1 (West Bradford Fire Co.), 49-5 (East Brandywine Fire Co.), Rescue 38, Tanker 39 and Engine 51-1 (First West Chester Fire Co.) for RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) were dispatched for a building fire at 138 W. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown Borough.
Battalion Chief 45 (Trego) arrived to find smoke showing from second and third floor windows on the B Side of a multi-apartment building.
The crew from Tower 45 (Lt. McCarraher) arrived first and made forcible entry at the second floor apartment door, then found an un-occupied apartment that was undergoing renovations with a fire in the kitchen area. The single apartment occupied the second floor with bedrooms on the third floor. The crew from Engine 38 laid a 5″ supply line from W. Lancaster and Stuart Avenues, then advanced an 1.75″ hand-line into the kitchen and extinguished the one room fire. The crew from Engine 46-1 (Minquas Fire Co. No. 2) deployed an 1.75″ back-up hand-line and the team from Rescue 45 (Lt. Tatham) placed ground ladders and assisted with overhaul.
