Due to several power outages and general clean-up in our area as a result of Tropical Storm Isaias, some of our Good Neighbors are using portable generators at there homes and businesses.

The Alert Fire Co. No. 1 and the Downingtown Fire Dept. would like to remind you to use your generator in a well ventilated area, outside and away from your home. Please review these safety points. Generators should be at least 15ft. or more from any building for starters !

The Alert No. 1 volunteers responded to several emergency calls today, during and after Tropical Storm Isaias. The calls included smoke investigations, automatic fire alarms, electric wires and water rescues.

The storm today dumped 5.25” of rain on the Downingtown area and the Brandywine Creek, just south of the borough, reached a flood height of 14’ with a flow of 6000 cf/s. The normal height of the creek is 2’ to 3’!

I’m so sorry for all of you who lost power. Thank you for the photos. To see the flooding in familiar places was disheartening. 🙏

Wow! I feel for everyone who lives in Downingtown! I used to live there and I remember the floods prior to Marsh Creek being built! They were devastating!

It’s been awful. Still without power since 12:45 at home and work. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I had no clue it was that bad. Now I understand all the power outages..

Thanks to all the volunteers and emergency responders!
