At 11:16 PM, Tower 45 and Engine 46-2 of the Downingtown Fire Dept. were dispatched to assist Station 38 (Thorndale Fire Co.) on the First Alarm Assignment, for a house fire in the 3500 block of Hazelwood Ave., Caln Township. The Caln Police Dept. arrived on location with fire showing from under the eves of a three-story twin house. Deputy 38 (Taylor) upgraded the assignment to a Working Fire Dispatch.
The crew from Tower 45 (Ass’t. Chief Wesson) were directed to ventilate the rear side of the roof, as the first-due truck company. The crew from Engine 46-2 (Ass’t. Chief Boyd) assisted with interior fire attack in the exposure house. The team from Squad 45 (Lt. Tatham) assisted placing all of the 240 feet of ground ladders from Tower 45 on all sides of the house, then conducted outside ventilation.
Additional fire was found to be in the attic space and inside of the walls, which made for an extensive overhaul operation. Deputy 38 requested a Second Alarm for additional manpower for relieve crews. The DFD volunteers were released and returned to station at 3:30 AM.
